What Are Keywords
What are Keywords? I hear that
question a lot from people trying to figure out how to
design, develop or promote their online website or
affiliate programs. Many cookie cutter software
programs that are designed to help you get a website up
and running quickly will often include an area that
says "enter keywords
here". Those three little words have
baffled more than a few online marketers over the
years.
Even still,
with Internet marketing gaining popularity many are still
confused at to just what are keywords? Well the fact is
that keywords are all too often misunderstood. A keyword
for our purposes, often times, should be a key phrase
instead.

You see, a
keyword is the word or words a web surfer types into
a search engine to find related web pages for whatever they are
looking for.
But finding relelvant web pages requires more than a
single word. One single keyword on its own is
not specific enough. Take for instance the keyword
"Dog". If you went to Google and typed in the word "Dog"
you would get millions of results for that keyword. But
what if that person is looking for a "german shepherd dog"
of "dog training" or "dog food"? They would have to sort
through millions of pages just to find what they are looking
for. So, if that person is looking for dog training...the
keyword or keywords he or she would type into the search box
would be "dog training". This tells the search engine to
go out and find all of the relevant pages related to the
keyword term "dog training".
So - lets go
back a minute to our original question...What are
keywords? Hopefully, the above paragraph
provides you with your very first lesson in keyword selection
and research.
- First - A keyword is
word or words that someone types into a search box to find
a relevant web page.
- Second - The keyword
should actually be a "keyword phrase" to be more targeted
and provide a more precise return of relevent
pages.
Adding
Keywords to Your Website
The above
paragraphs explains how someone finds relevant web pages
based on the use of keywords. This is important
information for an individual that may be building a website to
sell affiliate products, ebooks, or any other online
merchandise. Specifically, you have to know the keywords
that buyers are using to search for whatever it
is you are selling.
In a nutshell
you have to build and design your website around the actual
keywords that people are using when they are ready
to buy. These keywords are called Buyer Keywords and they are somewhat
tough to find but when you find them you will reap the rewards
all the way to the bank.
If you are
brand new to keywords, keyword reserch or are struggling
understanding what keywords are, I suggest you become a member
of one of two prominate internet marketing membership
sites...either Affilorama
or PLR Pro. They are two
great sites that I continue to retain my membership for because
they have taught me so much about not only keyword research but
about online marketing in general as well as web page
design. My first choice for you would be Affilorama
because of the step-by-step instruction methods they use but
PLR Pro offers the benefit of an automatic site builder and
content provider. Check them both out for yourself,
either is an excellent choice if you want to jumpstart your
online earnings.
